AAA Five-Diamond Hotels and Resorts 2017

AAA noemt 120 hotels en resorts op de lijst van Five Diamond-hotels in de VS, Canada, het Caribisch gebied en Mexico voor 2017. Elk jaar verandert de lijst niet veel, omdat hotels en resorts ernaar streven deze prestigieuze benaming te behouden. Toch is er altijd beweging, en hier is het dieptepunt op de winnaars en verliezers.

The Winners: 6 New Five-Diamond Hotels and Resorts toegevoegd in 2017

Vier hotels in de Verenigde Staten hebben zich dit jaar bij de exclusieve lijst gevoegd: het exquise Four Seasons Resort Lanai, een luxueus tropisch paradijs; The St. Regis New York, een tijdloze klassieker die oorspronkelijk in 1904 werd geopend; en Richmond's The Jefferson Hotel, een grande dame waar het zuiden weer is opgestaan. Puerto Rico, Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve onthult hoe een eersteklas accommodatie aan het strand kan worden omgebouwd tot een modern paleis aan zee.

Buiten de VS is Spice Island Beach Resort on Grenada een door een familie gerund hotel dat ernaar streeft de gasten het beste van alles te bieden. En het Spaanse koloniaal geïnspireerde Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City is het toppunt van stijlvolle verfijning.

De verliezers: 5 hotels en resorts gedegradeerd tot vier diamanten in 2017

Vier hotels in de VS schitteren minder fel en zijn geëlimineerd van de lijst. Aangevraagd aan Four-Star Siberia waren Mandarin Oriental, Miami on Brickell Key; Georgia's The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead; en The Rittenhouse Hotel in Philadelphia. Walden in Aurora, Ohio verscheen niet op beide lijsten en dat resulteerde erin dat de staat zijn enige eigendom met vijf diamanten verloor. En in Canada werd het Four Seasons Resort Whistler in British Columbia gedegradeerd van vijf tot vier sterren.
